The Indiana-Ecuador Partnership for Sustainable Development (IEP) student chapter at IU engages and supports Indiana University students in a variety of service-learning and internship initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable development in Ecuador. Our San Gerardo Community Project is a collection of initiatives that promote the integrated sustainable development of our partner community, Paquibug San Gerardo (S.G.).
Building upon a six-year working relationship between IU Southeast (IUS) and Sand Gerardo through the service learning course Explorations on Diversity Education: http://homepages.ius.edu/MHERDOIZ/pages/, IU alumni, faculty, and students have created IEP to provide an organizational umbrella to coordinate collaborative projects with a long-term strategic vision.
The IEP student chapter at IUB provides support to San Gerardo by:
-Working with IEP directors to develop US- and Ecuador-based service-learning and internship projects for IU students
-Working with the community bank (CB) and women’s organization (WO) to facilitate trainings and provide technical assistance
-Helping to organize the WO’s handicrafts micro-enterprise and marketing its products in the U.S.
-Teaching after-school English classes for and tutoring S.G. children
Please feel free to contact us at IEPSD at indiana dot edu with any questions on the organization and to find out how you can help.
